Educational Support
and Peer Leadership is a comprehensive
intensive, integrated youth development
project that seeks to address the multiple
needs of youth who are “at risk”
of dropping out of school, and/or performing
poorly. NCNW in collaboration with August
Martin, Springfield Gardens, Jamaica and
Campus Magnet High Schools, actively interface
with students on site to provide the necessary
services and support systems that guarantee
prolonged future successes. In addition
to assisting students improve their reading,
writing, math, study skills and test-taking
strategies, hands-on computer literacy has
been introduced to stimulate excitement
for learning with the use of tutorial and
academic games. The use of technology also
serve to prepare youth with quality education
for the world they live in and the challenges
that awaits them. Peer-Leadership directed
forum highlight the accomplished leadership
acquired skills including public speaking,
organizing, planning, critical thinking,
team building and interpersonal relations
among peers and adults.
